Samuel:
“I’m Thankful for a Place to Call Home”

Samuel lived on the streets of Boston for over ten years before moving into one of Pine Street Inn’s apartments. “I would sleep in different places every night, often in a tent or in a park,” Samuel says. “During the day, I would visit different community programs to clean up and eat a meal. I wasn’t comfortable coming into a shelter.” With the persistence of Pine Street’s outreach team, Samuel was able to move directly from the street into a home.

Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Month

Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Month

November is Homelessness and Hunger Awareness Month. As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, with its focus on home, food and celebration, we are especially aware of those in our community who struggle with hunger and homelessness.

Because we know that a home ends homelessness, Pine Street continues to collaborate with the City of Boston, state agencies and other service providers to move individuals off the street, out of shelter and back to a home and community.

Thank you to chefs Andy Husbands and Matheus DeAraujo of The Smoke Shop BBQ for joining our Visiting Chef series. Visiting chefs like Andy and Matheus bring valuable expertise and help teach real world professional skills, making a significant impact for our trainees. After several years of involvement in the series, Andy shared, "At Pine Street, everyone's working toward a goal, and I want to be part of that."

Season of Celebration

As part of Pine Street Inn’s efforts to acknowledge and celebrate the diversity of our staff, guests, trainees and tenants, we are expanding the traditional November and December holiday season to create a more inclusive “Season of Celebration,” from mid-November through New Year’s Eve. After this year’s inaugural launch, we plan to include additional celebrations in coming years.
