David S. — New Home, New Life

David began experimenting with drugs at a young age, and over the years, he developed a substance use disorder. After he suffered an overdose, David knew he had to take action. “I realized I had to get help if I wanted to survive,” David says. He first learned about Pine Street Inn while he was in a treatment program. Now in recovery for over a year and housed in Pine Street’s new residence in the Back Bay, David is managing his recovery and enjoying his new community.

Yawkey House Opening

Dedicating Yawkey House

On January 24, Jean Yawkey's 115th birthday, Pine Street Inn dedicated our Women’s Inn as “Yawkey House,” in honor of the Yawkey Foundation’s extraordinary $15 million gift commitment, made in December 2021 — the largest in Pine Street’s history.

With their support, we are adding 400–500 new apartments for people moving out of homelessness, a 40 percent increase. The Foundation’s donation also made possible the installation of new, energy-efficient windows and a renovated lobby for Yawkey House. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Yawkey Foundation for their 35-year commitment to Pine Street.

Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts Donate Sweet Treats

Thank you to the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts who included Pine Street Inn as part of their "Share the Love" campaign. Their CEO, Barb Fortier (left in photo), joined Pine Street staff in delivering 1,800 boxes of cookies that were distributed to our four shelters and several residences. "We value our partners in the community, and Pine Street Inn is a wonderful example," says Barb. "This donation will help brighten the lives of the people Pine Street Inn supports."
