Michael — "Keep Climbing"

Michael was homeless for 520 days due to struggles with alcoholism that began while he was in college. At first, he was able to stay with friends but eventually wound up living on the streets.

"I first connected with Pine Street Inn through the outreach team when I met Matt, my caseworker," says Michael, "He helped me turn things around. Without him, I wouldn’t be here. Matt connected me to housing and walked me through the application process."

Now housed at Pine Street’s newest and largest residence in Jamaica Plain, Michael is focusing on his recovery. Recently, Michael received some great news — he now has a job working for the City of Boston as a crossing guard supervisor.

3368 Opening

New Housing Opens!

On March 12, Pine Street Inn, along with Mayor Michelle Wu, building tenants and community members, celebrated the grand opening of 3368 Washington Street, Pine Street’s newest residence in Jamaica Plain. Developed in partnership with The Community Builders, the building features 140 apartments with support to help tenants thrive, and is the largest housing location of its kind in New England.

At the event, the name of the building was officially unveiled as "The Lyndia" in honor of President and Executive Director Lyndia Downie’s 40-year commitment to ending homelessness. "In today’s uncertain world, one thing is certain: a place like this transforms lives. People go from the uncertainty — and often the chaos — of staying on the street or in a shelter to a permanent home where they can rebuild their lives. This is how we will end homelessness."

Mayor Wu said, "3368 Washington Street represents our unwavering commitment to ensuring every Bostonian has a safe, stable place to call home. With supportive services on-site and a strong community network, these new apartments provide a foundation for residents to rebuild their lives. I am grateful to our partners and the community for making this vision a reality."

This new building brings Pine Street’s total housing units with support to 1,100 in Boston and Brookline.
