Mario — Rebuilding His Life

Mario worked hard throughout his life, often holding multiple jobs at the same time. After a job loss combined with an abrupt eviction notice from his landlord, Mario became homeless.

"Suddenly, I had no place to live and no income," he says.

Mario came to the Men’s Inn shelter, where he worked with his case manager to secure housing at a Pine Street residence. "I was so happy," Mario says. "But that same day, I learned that my brother had passed away. I was devastated — it was a big setback."

With time and support from Pine Street’s clinicians, Mario began to heal. Today, Mario is rebuilding his life.

In a recent segment on CityLine, President and Executive Director Lyndia Downie discussed dealing with a difficult winter, as well as Pine Street Inn’s efforts to provide housing in Boston, where costs continue to rise.

"The folks that are long-term homeless in Boston end up on the street and shelter often for years. This is who we focus on for supportive housing," says Lyndia.

To help people get back on their feet, Pine Street provides a range of services, including housing with support, shelter, street outreach and job training, to support people in reaching their highest level of independence.

Ending Homelessness
One Step at a Time

On Monday, April 20, #TeamPineStreet will take on the Bank of America Boston Marathon® to help end homelessness. Every step our dedicated runners take is a step towards providing a home and community for others.

"Every person deserves a home, a job and access to resources. As the associate director of workforce development at Pine Street, I help make that a reality by overseeing our two job training programs," says Lauren Cronin. "I am excited to run and raise funds on behalf of Pine Street."

Lauren will join fellow runners Emily Berg, Amy Davis, Lauren Foley, Tommy Haverty, David Krakauer, Nageshwar Ravikanti, Brittany Shelby and Tabitha Torres next month on Marathon Monday.
