Congratulations, Class of 2026!

Pine Street Inn recently celebrated the graduation of more than 90 trainees from the iCater culinary and housekeeping job training programs.

Dr. Michael Curry, Esq., President and Chief Executive Officer of Massachusetts Community Health Centers and this year’s keynote speaker, spoke to the graduates about the power of celebrating and sharing their success stories. "There is hope and resilience in what we share with others. They need to know how you went from being homeless to graduating today. That's your story."

Graduate speaker Durell inspired the audience with his remarks. "Having a job and a home gives me the peace of mind to focus on what’s next. That’s something I don’t take for granted," Durell shared. "To my fellow graduates, stay focused, take every opportunity and don’t give up on your goals."

We are pleased to share that Durell is employed at Cactus Club Café!

From Homelessness to Employment in the Boston Herald

Families, friends and staff celebrated the achievements of Pine Street's job training program graduates. In its 30 years, more than 2,000 trainees have graduated with job readiness skills leading to employment and self-sufficiency. With the support of Pine Street’s employment specialists, many graduates find careers at local hospitals, universities and in the hospitality industry.

"Every one of you is defying the stereotypes by showing us what it takes to move on beyond homelessness into jobs and into housing," said Pine Street's President and Executive Director Lyndia Downie. "Nothing has been handed to you. You’ve had to overcome obstacles that most people would see as insurmountable."

Elder Homelessness WCVB

WCVB/Channel 5 Shines Light on Elder Homelessness

Recently, Chief of Programs April Gately and Yawkey House shelter guest Jaqueline discussed the growing issue of elder homelessness and the toll it takes on older adults.

In an expensive housing market like Boston, living on a fixed income can be challenging. If someone experiences a major medical issue, as Jacqueline did, the emotional and financial strain can become overwhelming, leading to the loss of housing.

At Pine Street Inn, dedicated staff are working closely with Jacqueline and others to find a home and provide the support needed to "age in place" with dignity. From shelter initiatives that help elders stay healthy, to new housing for people age 62+, we are working to address this growing issue.

Watch the story on WCVB/Channel 5.
