Shannon — Making a Change

No matter what challenges she has faced in life, Shannon has always tried to do her best. When mental health challenges mounted, she turned to substances to cope. "I knew I needed help and entered a recovery program," Shannon shares. "I stayed sober for nearly two years. Then I relapsed and lost everything — including my home."

During a brief stay at another shelter, Shannon heard about Yawkey House, Pine Street Inn's shelter for women. "Everyone told me Pine Street had the resources to help me get back on my feet," says Shannon. "Coming here was the best decision I could have made. The staff are compassionate and want to help."

Since arriving, Shannon has applied for housing, reconnected with therapy and prioritized her mental health. "Having structure makes such a difference and has helped with my recovery," she says.

For now, Shannon is taking things one step at a time. "This change was hard," she says. "But it’s a good one."

Saint Cecilia Parish

Supporting Community, No Matter the Distance

Near or far, your support makes an impact. Members of Saint Cecilia Parish’s "Far-Flung-Flock" gathered in Boston for their annual retreat to assemble Welcome Home Bags for veterans in Pine Street residences. The Flock, comprised of long-distance parishioners, put together essential items, including cleaning supplies and shampoo, packed in laundry baskets.

"We are here to celebrate our faith and to provide newly housed veterans with necessities to run a home," says Betty Anne Asaro, a parishioner and member of the Flock. "This work encourages us to go back to our communities and bring that same service to others."
