Kenny Finds a Home

Originally from South Boston, Kenny spent his career as a cook and restaurant manager as he moved around the country. He and his girlfriend came back to Boston when her father died, caring for her mother and settling into a new life.

Then Kenny’s parents passed away 20 days apart. Even though he tried to hold himself together, the loss was too much. He began drinking, his girlfriend broke up with him, and Kenny started on a downward spiral. The drinking got worse; eventually he lost his parents’ house and didn’t have anywhere to go. Kenny wound up at Pine Street Inn, where his struggle with alcohol continued.

Pine Street staff helped Kenny find a recovery program, and he’s been sober for 20 years. His case manager helped him find an apartment to settle into and take care of himself.

“It’s a good building, with a lot of good people,” says Kenny. “I know where to go shopping and where to get the bus. I feel comfortable here and it’s working out well for me. I’m so grateful to Pine Street.”
