Gregory — A Renewed Sense of Purpose

"From the outside, it looked like I was doing great," Gregory reflects. "But inside, I felt empty."

Gregory grew up outside Boston. "After I left school, I lost my way," he shares. "I didn’t have a strong support system and turned to substances to cope with feeling lost."

His life began to change for the better when Gregory sought treatment. For the next nine years, he rebuilt his life — landing a great job and buying a condo. However, when work pressures mounted and stress became overwhelming, he relapsed.

"I lost my job, my house, my car and my savings," Gregory says. "I realized I needed help. I entered a recovery program, where I learned about iCater, Pine Street Inn’s culinary training program."

Now, Gregory wakes up with a sense of purpose. "One day, I would love to open my own restaurant," he says. "I’m taking things day by day. Only this time, I’m not doing it alone."

Celebrating the New Year
in a New Home

The start of a new year promises new beginnings! For Philip, a former Pine Street guest and graduate of the iCater job training program, that means celebrating in his first-ever apartment — a milestone he once thought impossible.

"I thought I wasn’t going to make it," says Philip, who became homeless after facing mental health challenges. When he turned to Pine Street for help, Philip hoped to transform his life.

Now in an apartment of his own and working as a nutritional assistant at Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital, Philip finds fulfillment by helping others. "Being here, having my own place, I can dream big," concludes Philip.
